Course Introduction
Welcome to your Paediatric Immediate Life Support (PILS) course. We begin with a short introduction to your course so you know what to expect during your training.
Initial Care and PPE
To begin your training we will look at Initial Care and PPE. Beginning with Pre-Shift checks, we then learn about communication before the use of PPE, the Chain of Survival, and the Recovery Position.
ABCDE Approach
In this section, you will learn about the ABCDE approach to patient care and AVPU, the method used to assess the level of the patient's disability or mental capacity.
Heart Rhythms
In this section, we look at how the heart works before learning about abnormal heart rhythms, including those that cannot be shocked, and the problem of stable angina, which is common in the UK.
Airway Management
In this section, you will learn about airway management, the different airways we use, and the correct use of suction units.
ECG's
In this section, you will learn how to carry out a 12 lead ECG as part of ongoing patient assessment, including how to correctly apply and remove them.
Pulse Oximetry
CPR - Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
In this section, we look at adult, child, and infant CPR, including advanced techniques and ways you can improve your breaths and compressions and give guidance on CPR and Coronavirus.
Defibrillation
This section gives an overview of AED's how to use them and manual defibrillation.
Oxygen
Oxygen is vital for life. In this section you will learn when it is used, the hazards involved when we use it, the effect of COPD on Oxygen Therapy, and the effect of too little (Hypoxia) or too much oxygen in the body (Hyperoxia). We look at the different oxygen cylinders and the equipment we use to administer oxygen.
DNR's and When to Stop Resuscitation
In this section, we look at DNR and the decision-making process involved when it comes to terminating resuscitation.
Choking
In this section, you will learn about choking management in adults, children, and infants.
PILS Summary
The summary contains important information on completing your final test and printing your certificate of completion and other course resources
